Robinson Udale was started by Rob in September 1993, with one client and a box room office above a shop on the Corn Market in Penrith. After 18 months the gamble was starting to pay off and now needing some help he took on an assistant, squeezing her into a corner of the room.
By 1995 the client base had expanded enough to warrant a bigger space and some further help and so the office moved to Little Dockray. Rob took on Julie as an assistant and shorty after a new partner in Jane Meeks in 1998. Built on a reputation of friendly and proactive service the practice steadily grew through the 1990s and 2000s and by 2006 what had originally seemed like a ‘forever office’ had been outgrown. The opportunity came up to acquire the old TSB Bank on King Street and with its prominent position in town it seemed like the perfect fit for a growing practice.
We were a team of eight when we moved and we have now expanded to four partners and seventeen staff. The practice is now headed by Danny Roper, with Rob having taken on more of a consultancy role, but the business is still very much one of family. The ethos has always been that staff and family come first and with good training and experience everything else follows. George became the second generation of Udale’s to work at the practice and many of our staff have been here for over a decade, with some having here from the early days in Little Dockray. We continue to offer a very personal service to our clients that sees them as people not just businesses. We believe in giving back to our community through many and varied community initiatives and sponsorships and are committed to our responsibility to the environment through our membership of the 1% for the Planet international organisation, donating a minimum 1% of annual turnover.
